July 30, 2026: Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers and GAIL (India) Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 29, 2026, to jointly establish a gas-based fertilizer project in Maharashtra. The companies plan to develop the facility through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), targeting a urea production capacity of 1.27 MMTPA (million metric tonnes per annum). This collaboration aims to expand domestic fertilizer infrastructure by leveraging GAIL’s existing natural gas pipeline network in the Vidarbha region.

Project Structure and Location

The proposed facility will be located in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, situated along GAIL’s Mumbai–Nagpur–Jharsuguda Natural Gas Pipeline (MNJPL). The use of an SPV structure indicates a joint venture approach, allowing both entities to share risks and resources in the development of the gas-based urea plant.
