October 23, 2026: Reliance Industries, controlled by Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, said on Wednesday that he and his son Anant Ambani conferred with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on worldwide energy dynamics and where energy meets digital infrastructure, data centres included. Rubio spent two days in Mumbai and Jamnagar in western India, meeting government and business figures such as Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and Ambani, whose company runs the globe's biggest refining complex at Jamnagar.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Rubio said he intended to press Reliance Industries to process additional Venezuelan crude at its domestic refineries and possibly start extracting oil in the South American nation.
According to Reliance's Wednesday statement, the visit featured extensive talks on worldwide energy dynamics and chances for commercial partnerships spanning conventional and new energy. The company added that the Ambanis also offered their views on prospects for working with US companies. The Jamnagar complex houses two large refineries with roughly 1.4 million barrels per day of combined crude capacity, capable of handling the ultra-heavy Venezuelan grades, some of which resemble sludge in consistency. With Venezuelan output rising, Reliance has become a major importer of that country's crude.
