November 4, 2026: Vedanta Ltd Chairman Anil Agarwal has welcomed the Indian government’s recent policy reforms in the oil and gas sector, saying they could improve investor confidence and support domestic production.
Agarwal shared his views after attending the India Energy Bid Promotion roadshow in London last week. He praised the presentations and the participation of officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
He highlighted several policy measures, including replacing lengthy clearances with self-certification, resolving pending litigation through mutual discussions and extending leases for the lifetime of an oil and gas field.
According to Agarwal, these changes could reduce operational uncertainties and give investors greater confidence to participate in India’s energy sector. Emphasising the importance of trust between the government and industry, he said, “As I always say, it is all about bharosa and that is now being reflected.”
Reforms aim to attract more oil and gas investors
Agarwal also pointed to India’s untapped potential in oil and gas exploration and production. He said greater awareness of the country’s profitability and investment opportunities could encourage more large companies to participate in bidding for oil and gas blocks.
Companies could also consider partnerships with local players, particularly through the Samudra Manthan programme. The Vedanta chairman cited growing investor interest in smaller markets such as Guyana. He argued that India offers significant opportunities, supported by its policies and investment environment.
