Today's News » India, OPEC discuss energy security, oil market stability at 7th high-level dialogue
September 24, 2026: India and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) discussed oil market stability, energy security and the need for adequate and timely investment across the oil industry at the seventh High-Level Meeting of the OPEC-India Energy Dialogue held in New Delhi on September 22, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

The meeting was co-chaired by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri and OPEC Secretary-General Haitham Al Ghais. The two sides reviewed short-, medium- and long-term energy market outlooks and highlighted India’s growing role in global economic expansion and energy demand.

India-OPEC relationship

Puri said India and OPEC share a complementary and mutually beneficial relationship and acknowledged Al Ghais’s contribution towards strengthening engagement between the two sides.

He said India valued its longstanding relationship with OPEC and its member countries, which had contributed to greater understanding and cooperation on key energy issues. Referring to India’s expanding energy requirements, Puri said the country would remain an important driver of global energy demand in the coming decades as one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies.

He also stressed the importance of sustained dialogue between energy producers and consumers to support investment, strengthen energy resilience and ensure reliable energy supplies for global growth and development. Puri appreciated OPEC’s efforts to promote stability and transparency in global energy markets amid geopolitical uncertainty and market volatility. He called for closer cooperation between India and OPEC towards maintaining a balanced, stable and predictable global energy market.
